XRD for grade control of iron ores and process optimization of iron sinter production
Traditionally quality control of iron ore and iron ore sinter has relied on time consuming wet chemical analysis. The mineralogical composition that defines the physical properties such as hardness or reducibility is currently not monitored. XRD analysis in combination with the Rietveld quantification and statistical data evaluation using Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR) are innovative tools to establish the mineralogical composition and other properties such as the Fe2+ content of iron ore and iron ore sinter within a matter of minutes.
During the webinar you will learn basics about the quantification methods and statistical tools used for the analysis of iron ore and iron ore sinter. Case studies will be demonstrated. The webinar targets industrial as well as academic XRD users from mining related industries.

Nicholas Norberg studied Mineralogy and Crystallography in Vienna (Austria) dealing with radiation damage in minerals before moving to Potsdam (Germany) where he was working in the field of experimental mineralogy studying mineral chemistry and physics at elevated temperatures and pressures. He joined PANalytical in Almelo (the Netherlands) as an Application Specialist for XRD in 2011.
