EcoSpec: Linking hyperspectral remote sensing and plant activity

This webinar focuses around the application of plant activity response and features ASD’s FieldSpec® 4 Standard-Resolution Spectroradiometer.

In this webinar you will learn about:
• How Argonne is using hyperspectral remote sensing and field measurements to study plant interactions with atmosphere within a day and across the season.
• Components and operation of the autonomous high temporal frequency hyperspectral reflectance collection—EcoSpec system (collecting white reference data before every data collection from the land surface, at each position around the tower, so that hyperspectral data is accurately converted to reflectance values).
• How hyperspectral reflectance data may be used to estimate plants’ response to their surrounding environment (photosynthesis and respiration).
• How this project, through the understanding of local climate and weather patterns and their interactions with the land surface, can help create better climate forecasting for the future.

Webinar details

Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM am MDT and 19:00-20:00 UTC +2:00

Panelist: Yuki Hamada; Assistant Biophysical Scientist/Remote Sensing, Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). Yuki holds a Ph.D. in Geography from UC Santa Barbara and San Diego State University. Yuki is involved in the Environmental Science Division (EVS) of Argonne National Laboratory, in their Ecological Science & Environmental Risk Department. She is a specialist in terrestrial biophysical remote sensing, with responsibility for environmental research, assessments, and monitoring related to natural and anthropogenic perturbations.
